I a sane man dreaming I'm mad, or just a madman dreaming I'm sane?

Psychiatric Nursing is a peculiar calling in life and Psychiatry itself certainly attracts some peculiar people to its profession. The stereotype of the "mad psychiatrist" often isn't just a stereotype and this can be extended to all specialities working in the field, including nurses, doctors, social workers, speech therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation officersand the like.

Mad Andy? The nature of Psychiatry itself is highly analytical of inter and intra personal processes and many who are attracted to these professions seem to be wrestling with significant issues of their own.

At least this is the way it seems to me.

Then again, maybe it's just a case of being more in touch with one's own and other people's issues than the general population. We are trained to spot patterns of behaviour in those we treat and inevitably this heightened awareness spills over to some extent into our own relationships with ourselves, our colleagues, friends and families.

But then again, perhaps I'm just being kind and making excuses..
